When a musician comes from ex-Yugoslavia, people tend to anticipate a repertoire “from the Balkans” or with “Eastern European influences”. Jelena Popržan meets these expectations with care and irony, while cleverly evading clichés. In her new programme she sets the poetry of Polish resistance fighter Tamara Radzyner to music with compositions performed by a multifaceted ensemble.
